UK Coaching has a strapline – ‘here for the coach’ and I am delighted that DOCIAsport works with the charity because of my passion to ‘look after the people looking after the people’.
Everyone who has played sport at any level remembers a great coach who has had an impact on them. For me that was Mr Alan Ogden who coached the Fleetwood Grammar School rugby 1st XV (the only XV, to be honest) but he also encouraged me with my running. Without his support and encouragement I wouldn’t have won the Lancashire Schools County Championships at 400m. I look back now and recognise with gratitude that Mr Ogden gave me so much more self-belief as an 18 year old that transcended the pitch or the track – great coaching!
