DOCIAsport has a longstanding relationship with the sports charity UK Coaching www.ukcoaching.org In 2017 I asked myself the question ‘who’s looking after the people looking after the people?’ in sport. This was triggered by having failed to apply a duty of care to myself and suffered mental illness as a result.

UK Coaching’s strapline is ‘Here for the coach’ and it is one of a few organisations that has openly embraced the Duty of Care report and recommendations undertaken by Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson in 2017.

So it has felt very much like a natural fit for DOCIAsport and UK Coaching to work together. I am proud to be a member of UK Coaching’s Coaching Advisory Panel and to chair the Duty to Care committee. The latter has offered advice, support and guidance to the charity’s executive who have developed and launched a free Duty to Care digital toolkit which was recently revised and launched in UK Coaching Week last month. Duty to Care Hub | UK Coaching – UK Coaching

I’m delighted to say that having worked my way through the 6 Pillars of Duty to Care in the toolkit, I am now the proud owner of the digital badge. I’d recommend anyone involved in coaching sport or physical activity to seriously consider qualifying for the badge and to become familiar with the breadth and depth of related resources for use in #greatcoaching.
